Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP): ICMP is one of the protocols that make up the Internet Protocol Suite (IPS) family of protocols. It enables devices connected to the network to send warning and error messages, as well as information on the success or failure of a connection request, and indicates when a service is not available. Unlike other network transport protocols such as UDP and TCP, ICMP is not used to send or receive data from devices on the network.
