Keyword stuffing is a search engine optimization (SEO) technique known as webspam or spamdexing, in which keywords are inserted into the meta tags, visible content or anchor text of a web page to gain an unfair ranking advantage in search engines. Keyword stuffing can lead to a website being temporarily or permanently blocked or penalized by the major search engines.

The repetition of words in meta tags can explain why many search engines no longer use these tags. Nowadays, search engines focus more on unique, comprehensive, relevant and helpful content that improves overall quality, which makes keyword stuffing useless, but still practiced by many webmasters.
